Girls Advance to Tourney Semifinals With 38-24 Victory
The Scotland County Lady Tigers breezed through their opening round matchup at the North Shelby Tournament on Monday night, pounding the Palmyra junior varsity squad 38-24.
SCR-I, the #2 seed in the bracket, put up a big lead in the first half and rested its starters much of the second half, giving the team's reserves some valuable experience.
Bethany Rader and Megan Creek each had a pair of field goals as Scotland County built a 14-8 lead in the first quarter.
Hailey Dial connected on a three-pointer and added a pair of field goals in the second period. Her seven points helped SCR-I take a 27-10 lead at the intermission.
SCR-I's defense held Palmyra to a lone field goal in the second period.
Scotland County didn't mount much offense coming out of the locker room. Katie Howard hit a three-pointer, but the lone other points of the period came on a bucket by Dial.
The Lady Tigers still added to the lead due to the dominating defense, which held Palmyra to just four points.
Alexis Dodge hit a three-pointer and Shaye Wright added a field goal in the fourth quarter as Scotland County cruised to the 38-24 win.
SCR-I (11-2) advances to the semifinals to take on the winner of the Schuyler County vs. Knox County game.
A win on Wednesday night would send SCR-I to the tourney championship game set for Saturday, January 19th at 6 p.m. A loss would place the Lady Tigers in the third place game to be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.
