Tigers Enter District Football Tourney as #7 Seed
Strength of schedule factored into the district seeding in the first season of the Missouri High School Activities Association football playoffs system, as Scotland County received the #7 seed despite a better record than the school ranked above them.
Louisiana, which was 0-9 this year, earned the #6 seed based on the new MSHSAA points system that rewards schools for playing larger schools. The Bulldogs, who play in the Clarence Cannon Conference, played a number of Class 2 teams this year, while SCR-I's schedule was predominantly similar sized Class 1 schools.
Westran, the #7 ranked team in the state, received the district's #1 seed with MSHSAA points value of 45.21. The Hornets (8-1) will face North Shelby (0-9) which earned just 13.49 in the MSHSAA points system.
The Tigers (2-7) earned the #7 seed with 21.92 points. They will play South Shelby (5-4) in Shelbina on Friday night. The Cardinals racked up 44.3 MSHSAA ranking points to take the #2 seed.
Schuyler County (6-3) edged Knox County (6-3) based on the head-to-head record and a slightly tougher schedule to earn the #3 seed. The Rams will play Louisianna on Friday night in Queen City while the Eagles will host Paris (3-6) in the final first round game of the Class 1 District 5 football tourney.
The winners will advance to the district semifinals to be played on Wednesday, October 31st. The district title game will be played Monday, November 5th.
