Memphis Woman Escapes Submerged Vehicle
A 19-year-old Memphis woman escaped this one-car accident, Thursday afternoon south of Memphis, with moderate injuries.
A Memphis woman suffered moderate injuries in a one-car crash on Highway 15 in Scotland County at 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, December 29th.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, April S. Engelbrecht, 19, was northbound in a 2011 Chrysler on Highway 15, five miles south of Memphis when she fell asleep at the wheel. The car ran off the right side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, crossing into oncoming traffic and overcorrected again, driving off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a culvert and overturned, coming to rest on its top, submerged in a creek.
Engelbrecht was able to escape the vehicle with the aid of passing motorists.
She was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff's Office, the Memphis Police Department and the ambulance service.
