Thomas Brothers Help Blair Oaks Win First State Wrestling Trophy
Brett Thomas, a senior at Blair Oaks High School in Jefferson City (formerly of Memphis) competed in the Class 1 State Wrestling Tournament in Columbia, MO February 17 -19.
Brett qualified for state competition in the 152 pound weight class. His first match of the tournament was on Thursday February 17 with Derek Noblet from Lawson school and Brett won by pinning him in 3:55 to advance in the Quarter-finals.
Brett's second match was on Friday, February 18 with Gary Lindsay from Brookfield and Brett lost 20-5. Brett's third match was also on Friday with William Duncan from Herculaneum and with 40 seconds left in the match, Brett sprained his arm and defaulted due to injury, which put Brett out of the tournament.
Thomas ended the wrestling season with a record of 28-14.
On Saturday the Blair Oaks team had five of their ten state qualifiers medal with one 2nd place, one 3rd place and three 4th place finishes. Overall, Blair Oaks took 4th place at the Class 1 State Wrestling Tournament to secure the school's first state trophy.
Brett is the son of Dale and Pam Thomas of Jefferson City, MO and the grandson of Glen and Suzy Miller of Memphis, MO and Rodney and Debbie Thomas of Gorin, MO.
