Last Second Shot Won't Fall For Tigers in Tourney Opener

The Scotland County Tigers saw their hopes for a run at the North Shelby Tournament title rattle off the rim on Tuesday night as Harley Stone's last second shot did everything but go down for SCR-I in an opening round 42-41 loss to Knox County.

The Eagles fought back from an early deficit and then held off the Tigers in the final minute, masterfully taking advantage of fouls to give. With just one team foul, Knox County burned up five fouls without worry of sending SCR-I to the free throw line. But despite disrupting SCR-I's attempts to tie the game in the final minute, the Tigers got one last shot. An inbound play with less than five seconds left found Stone open close to the basket. The shot looked perfect, it just bounced in and out leaving the Eagles victorious.

Scotland County opened up a 15-6 lead in the first period as Dakota Wells knocked down a three pointer and Stone poured in six points.

The lead disappeared in the second period courtesy of a 14-8 Knox County run that left the Tigers on top 23-20.

The lead shrank to one at the end of the third period before Knox County completed the comeback and took the lead down the stretch.

Stone finished with 14 points to lead Scotland County (4-7) in scoring. Kasey Dial had eight points. Knox County was led in scoring by Justin Reeves with 14 points and Brock Couch with 11 points.
