Gorin Family Hurt in Memorial Day Crash
A mechanical failure led to a one-vehicle accident near Rutledge at 6:25 p.m. on Memorial Day, May 30th.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Michael G Shaffer, 51, was eastbound on Route A when the right rear wheel of his 1998 Ford came off. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned.
Michael Shaffer suffered moderate injuries in the crash. He was flown from the scene by Air Evac helicopter to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. A passenger in the vehicle, Laura H. Shaffer, 8, also suffered moderate injuries. She was flown from the scene by Air Evac helicopter to Blessing Hospital. A second passenger in the vehicle, Quinton J. Shaffer, 6, suffered minor injuries. He was treated at the scene by the Scotland County Ambulance.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff's Office, Scotland County First Responders, and the ambulance service.
