Kirksville Woman Life-Flighted From Scene of Head-On Crash

A Kirksville woman was life-flighted from the scene of a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer in Scotland County Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Becky G. Newland, 22, was eastbound on Highway 136 five miles east of Downing when the 1988 Jeep she was driving crossed the center line and collided head on with a westbound truck. The 2004 Peterbilt was driven by Devin L. Head, 20, of Derby, IA.

Newland sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene by Air Evac helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia.

Head was not injured in the crash.

Newland's Jeep sustained total damage while Head's semi was extensively damaged in the crash that occurred at 12:39 p.m.

The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Ambulance Service, Scotland County Sheriff's Department, Memphis Police Department and Scotland County Fire & Rescue.
