Memphis Legion Team Team Now 4-4
By Brock Bondurant
The Memphis American Legion baseball team is 2-4 in their last six games.
Drew Miller strokes a base hit during Post 219’s home game in Memphis on June 20th versus Macon.
In two games in Trenton on June 16, Memphis Post 219 split a double header with the Trenton 19-and-under-legion team. In the first game, Ben Shannan pitched 6&2/3 scoreless innings before the Trenton bats drove in seven runs with two outs in the seventh to win 7-2. In the second game, Post 219 edged out the opponent, 5-4.
On June 20, the Macon legion team came to Memphis and stole both games of the double header from Post 219, bringing Memphis’ record to 3-3 on the year.
Then last Wednesday, the Memphis Legion team traveled to Highland for another double header. The lightening all around the field sparked the Memphis bats early on, as Ben Shannan hit a 2-run homer in the first inning of a 13-3 win. The second game was a pitcher’s duel as Highland won the game 1-0 in extra innings. Sabe Sears pitched flawless for Memphis, but gave up just one run in the extra inning as Highland ran away with a walk-off win.
The Memphis American Legion Post 219 team will play next on July 3, in Palmyra, Missouri.
