Track Teams Advance to Sectionals in Four Events
Top four finishes at the district track meet in Brookfield on Saturday in four events will send several representatives of the Scotland County track squads on to sectional competition this weekend with the hopes of qualifying for state.
The Tigers 4 x 400 meter relay team of Rod Sears, Sabe Sears, Zach Miller and Monte Sally set a school record finishing in 3.41:02 seconds to finish second overall and move on to Centralia this Saturday.
Rod Sears will also be competing in the 800-meter run after winning the district title in a time of 2:08.22.
Elizabeth Duzan will move on to sectionals in the 100 meter hurdles after claiming a district medal in a time of 18.42 seconds. She was fourth overall
Coach Kevin Gundy said both Sears and Duzan had turned in better times during the year and he looks for them to take advantage of better weather conditions this Saturday to improve on their district showings with hopes of advancing to Jefferson City.
Loren Smith will also represent the Lady Tigers at sectionals after qualifying with a throw of 36’6” in the shot put to finish in fourth place.
Official results from the district track meet were not available at press time.
Rod Sears narrowly missed qualifying in the long jump, finishing fifth at 18’6.5”, well below his season best 20’3”.
Sabe Sears was in a similar spot in the triple jump, finishing one away from the qualifier in fifth place with a jump of 38’04”.
Sally earned sixth place in the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.55.
The Tigers finished 12th overall as a team with 29 points. Centralia claimed the team title with a total of 135 points with Brookfield in second with 98 points.
SCR-I competed against schools from South Shelby, Marceline, Highland, Macon, Westran, Fayette, Salisbury, Knox County, Schuyler County, Putnam County, Hallsville and Harrisburg.
The Lady Tigers finished 14th in the 16-team field with 15 points. Centralia won the girls team title with 100 points followed by Macon with 87 points and South Shelby with 82 points.
