BASIL C. HUMPHREY

Basil C. Humphrey, 83, of Memphis, Missouri, passed away at home in rural Scotland County on March 25, 2010.
The son of Dewey and Chleo Clark Humphrey, Basil was born on May 5, 1926 near Bible Grove, Missouri.
He attended grade school at Bible Grove, Crow and Cone and high school in Memphis, Missouri.
Basil joined the US Army and served in the Pacific theater under General McArthur.
On June 6, 1948, he was united in marriage to Faye Rice. They lived and farmed in Scotland and Clark Counties.
Sadly, Faye passed away February 29, 2008. Basil also mourned the death of his sister, Wanda Shelley and his grandson, Matthew Lucas Humphrey, who died in infancy.
Those left to honor his memory are his children; Stanley Humphrey of Memphis, Missouri and Robin Humphrey and spouse, David Hall, of Holt, Missouri; four grandchildren: Erin Miller of Baring, Missouri; Bruce Humphrey and his wife, Lacey, of Memphis, Missouri; Ryan Hilpert and his wife, Katie, of Rolla, Missouri; Kris Hilpert of Columbia, Missouri and eight great-grandchildren: Zach Snelling, Trevor Snelling, Analise Miller, Cody Miller, Aayla Humphrey, Hope Hilpert, Dustin Hilpert and Dylan Hilpert.
A visitation was held at twelve noon, March 28, 2010, at the Memphis Funeral Home until the beginning of the funeral service at 2 P.M. The service was officiated by Pastor Dan Hite and instrumental musician was Sarah Myers. Burial followed the service in Brock Cemetery in rural Scotland County. Casket bearers were Stanley Humphrey, David Hall, Bruce Humphrey, Jon Humphrey, Ryan Hilpert and Kris Hilpert. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Wallace W. Gillespie VFW Memorial Post #4958.
Memorials may be made to the Brock Cemetery or the Scotland County Health Department and may be left at or mailed to the Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
