Promoter Calls it Quits at Speedway
A tremendously wet spring gave way to a similar start to the summer. So when the Scotland County Speedway was finally able to squeeze in a race between all of the storms, it did not bode well for the track when car counts were down as was the grandstand attendance despite the fact it was the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
A rough go of it on July 3rd apparently was the final straw for first-year promoter Wayne Messamaker. According to the track’s website, the remainder of the promoter’s 2010 schedule has been cancelled.
The website did not offer any explanations and an interview request submitted to the promoter’s website did not generate any response.
The Scotland County Fair Board is currently pursuing other options to reopen the track this season. They have met with at least one prospective promoter and hope to have news on that front in the next week or two.
