Four Local Men Plead Guilty in Wildlife Violations Case in U.S. District Court
An investigation that began in Scotland County in March 2009 has resulted in four local men entering guilty pleas on federal charges. The United States Attorney’s Office announced on July 22nd that four Scotland County men have pleaded guilty to multiple federal wildlife violations, including illegally shooting a Bald Eagle and illegally trapping and shooting a Great Horned Owl and trapping a Yellow Shafted Flicker.

Betty Lodewegen, Scotland County Clerk, has notified the Memphis Democrat that she will have her office open on Saturday, July31, 2010 to give those who will be unable to be present on August, 2010 Election Day, the opportunity to vote by absentee ballot.

Speedway to Reopen Under New Boss
The Scotland County Speedway will reopen for racing action on August 14th after the Scotland County Fair Board reached an agreement with a new track promoter last week.

County Seeking More Tax Money for Road Rock
A year after it was soundly defeated by voters, the county will again be seeking a tax increase for road rock services on the August 3rd primary election ballot. This time, the ballot issue will seek to raise the tax from $0.25 to $0.75 per agriculture acre, a hike of 50 cents.
