Girls Survive Slugfest to Best LaPlata 46-34
With more than 20 free throws shot in the first period alone, it is safe to say that Thursday night’s girls semi-finals match up between Scotland County and LaPlata was a bit physical.
The Lady Tigers fell behind early, going the first eight minutes without a field goal, allowing the Bulldogs to lead 11-4.
SCR-I battled back in the second period. Kiley Frazier gave the team a spark off the bench with five points. Jamie Shaw and Ashley Tague combined for 10 points in the second period as the Lady Tigers pulled ahead 21-19 at the break.
It was much of the same in the third period as SCR-I dominated in the paint. Shaw, Tague and Aimee Dale poured in 12 points while the SCR-I defense held LaPlata to just six points in the third period to extend the lead to 37-25.
LaPlata made the game interesting late but Anna Duley hit a key three pointer to put the contest away for a 46-34 win for Scotland County.
Shaw finished with 15 points to lead Scotland County (2-0) to the tourney title game. Tague pitched in nine points and Duley finished with six.< br>
