EVELYN V. FRAZIER

Evelyn V. Frazier, age 86, of Luray, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009, in Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA.
She was born January 12, 1923 near Revere, MO, a daughter of Ovie and Fern Daniel Hufford.
On June 4, 1942, she was united in marriage to Leroy F. Frazier at the Methodist Parsonage in Kahoka and had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy F. Frazier of rural Luray; two sons, Jim Frazier of Luray, and his special friend, Connie Baker of Quincy, and Dennis L. Frazier and his wife, Beckie, of Kahoka; a daughter, Debbie Carter and her husband, Frank, of Crawfordsville, IN; one brother, William Hufford and his wife, Marion, of Revere; a sister, Darlene Albertson and her husband, Kenny, of Mesa, AZ; nine grandchildren: Mike (Sandy) Frazier of Kahoka, David (Tricia) Frazier of Mt. Pleasant, Jeffrey (Debbie) Frazier of Lindenhurst, IL, Steve (Tori) Frazier of Burlington, Ron Frazier of Kansas City, Ryan Frazier of Kahoka, Denise Frazier of Kahoka, Kathy (Heath) Richmond of Ursa, IL, and Tammy (Richard) Robinson of Kansas City; nineteen great-grandchildren: Anthony Kerr, Cassie Kerr, Ross and Camille Frazier, Shane Gregory, Stephanie Goble, Justina Frazier, Samantha Goble, Sydney, Ashly, Kaitlyn, Kali, Taegan, Ty, and Alexa Frazier, Kourtney and Kelson Richmond, and Wessyn and Shiloh Robinson; as well as numerous relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Lori Frazier Gregory; and a sister, Lorena “Jenny” Wilson.
Evelyn graduated from Kahoka High School in 1940 and worked the next several years at Shaeffer Pen in Fort Madison. When Leroy completed his tour of duty in the service, they began farming north of Luray, where she helped him with many aspects of farming while maintaining the farm bookwork, a large garden, and caring for their children.
She was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Kahoka Chapter # 40, O.E.S. and had been well-known throughout the district in her many years of active membership. She also served as secretary of the Luray School Board and as Clark Co. Democratic Vice Chair for many years.
Evelyn kept very busy with her family and her activities, yet she found time to plant a large vegetable garden and many flowers. She also enjoyed her birds and feeders. She was noted for her many poems and stories she wrote, her good cooking and her sweet disposition. She cared about others and kept a daily diary and a record of birthdays and anniversaries and would get cards ready at the first of the month so no one would be forgotten. She truly was a friend to all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Rev. Beryl Cragg officiating. Additional tributes were given by Miss Denise Frazier and others. Special music was provided by Bonnie Vineyard, pianist, and Elaine Forrester, vocalist. Selections were “In the Garden” and “God Be With You”.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Mike Frazier, David Frazier, Jeffrey Frazier, Steve Frazier, Ron Frazier and Ryan Frazier.
Burial was in Combs Cemetery at Luray.
Public Order of the Eastern Star service was performed during visitation. Memorials were suggested to the Combs Cemetery.
