Relay For Life Preparing for 9th Annual Event
With eight teams already signed up for the 9th Annual Scotland County Relay for Life, organizers will meet April 20th to put the final touches on plans for the June 12th fundraiser.
Participants will need to have all team registration, sponsorship, and T-shirt money turned in at the meeting, meaning it is not too late to form a team or to agree to sponsor the event. A $50 donation to the Relay for Life gets the donor’s name on the event T-shirt.
Anyone interested in helping sponsor the event or in entering a team can contact chairperson Diane Tague at 660-282-3486 or Phyliis Mallett at 660-328-6351, Chris Tinkle at 660-465-7322, Kathy Gardner at 660-465-2006 or any relay team.
“Please call before April 20th to beat the deadline,” said Tague. “We hope to see everyone come out to support this worthy cause.”
Eight teams have already registered for the event. The FCCLA team – Finding Cancer Cures Lives Assured, is busy recycling cans to raise money for the cause and also will be selling snow cones at various school functions.
The Scotland County Care Center team, “The Jones Gang” is hosting a yard sale April 18th, a car show May 16th and a car wash at Pamida May 30th. They too are recycling aluminum cans and will be selling bracelets and earrings, as well as raffle tickets for a home theater system. Ribbon signs will be on sale the night of the event along with a silent auction for ball game tickets.
Beverly Moore’s team Seasons of Hope is selling Pizza Hut coupon books as well as other raffle tickets for a free pizza of the month.
Debbie Briggs’s team Honor and Memory will host an ice-cream float sale at Pamida on May 9th.
The No Payne No Gain team Blacking out Cancer will be selling shopping bags and also are sponsoring a traveling yard ribbon display.
Other teams registered for the event are the Scotland County Methodist Church Youth Group, April Wislon and Jeri Mohr.
A new fundraiser at the 2009 Relay for Life will be $5 haircuts. Jennifer Alexander of Country Clips will be cutting hair at the relay from 7:00 p.m. to midnight with all proceeds going to the event.
The traditional memorial luminaries are on sale for $5. In order to be displayed in alphabetical order around the square, the luminaries need to be purchased and registered by June 11th at 4:00 p.m. For more information contact Michael Moore at 465-7077.
