Rotary Club Planning John Ed Luther Memorial Golf Event

Scotland County Rotarians will honor a former member once again. The local charity group will host the 2008 John Ed Luther Memorial Golf Tournament on May 9 at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Memphis.

Luther, a long-time member of Rotary, was an avid golfer. After his death in 2006 following a battle with cancer, the group chose to honor his memory with the golf outing.

“This event is a tribute to John Ed Luther who was a community leader and a long-standing Rotarian,” said chapter preisdent David Peppard. “The tournament proceeds are used to directly benefit the local community. A key use of the funds raised will be the Rotary scholarship fund.”

Peppard and fellow tourney committee members Bill Kiddoo and Ellen Aylward are currently seeking sponsors for the event. For $100 donors can sponsor a hole with special signage at the tee box and the green. Donors can also share hole sponsor rights for $50 or can support the event with $25 general sponsorship rights. The group is also seeking gift prize donations to be given away at the course the day of the event in prize competitions.
