Lady Tigers Canít Stop State Ranked Canton
A run at a district title will have to go through a pair of the stateís best teams. Scotland County got a preview of how difficult that task can be, as SCR-I hosted #5 ranked Canton on February 19th in Memphis.
SCR-I kept the game close in the first half before Canton (20-2) pulled away late for the 57-32 victory.
Scotland County got off to a strong start before Canton rallied to lead 14-12 at the end of the first period.
The Lady Tigers struggled from behind the arc, making just one of seven three point attempts on the night.
Canton took advantage of the off shooting night to build a 27-17 bulge at the break.
The second half was all Canton as the #2 seed in the upcoming Class 2 District 6 tournament outscored the Lady Tigers 15-8 in the third period and 15-5 in the final eight minutes to secure the victory.
SCR-I seeded #6 in district play, will have to upset #3 Salisbury in order for a shot at the rematch in the district semifinals. The winner of that contest will then likely have to try to hand #1 ranked Westran (24-0) its first loss of the year, in an effort to derail the Hornets as they attempt to get back to the state championship game where they lost in 2007 on a last second shot.
Kirsten Johnston led Scotland County (8-14) with nine points on the night. Valerie Oldham finished with six points as did Kaitlin Caldwell.
