Scoring Woes Dig Hole For SCR-I In 51-40 Loss To Lady Gophers
ďAll I want for Christmas is some points.Ē She didnít actually say that but Scotland County Coach Kelly Swearingen had to be thinking that Tuesday night as her Lady Tigers struggled through a down night of shooting en route to a 51-40 loss to Green City.
Points were few and far between early on for SCR-I as Green City jumped out to an 11-5 lead in the gameís first eight minutes.
Kirsten Johnston hit a couple of shots and Deidra Dochterman knocked down a three pointer during the second period but Green City doubled that output as the Lady Gophers added to a 27-11 lead at the intermission.
The scoring struggles peaked in the third period, as Scotland County managed just five points over the eight-minute stretch on a three pointer by Melissa Cotton and a bucket in the paint from Kaela Cook.
But the defense limited Green City to just eight points in that same stretch.
Trailing 25 heading into the final eight minutes of the contest, the Scotland County offense finally came alive.
Down by as many as 17 points, Scotland County used a three pointer by Jessica Bair to pull to within 10 points with 4:57 left on the clock. But SCR-I never was able to get the deficit into single digits despite three late three pointers from Dochterman.
Johnston led Scotland County (3-5) with 16 points. Dochterman finished with a season-high 13 points.
Green City (8-0) remained undefeated behind the play of the Rouse trio of Jamie (15 points), Becky (12 points) and Chelsea (12 points).
