Boys Leapfrog Up Conference Standings With Win Over Knox
The Scotland County Tigers leapfrogged up the conference standings with a pair of victories in Tri-Rivers Conference play. SCR-I completed the two-game spurt with a 47-36 victory over Knox County in Memphis on February 10th.
Chris Humes got the Tigers off to a quick start, scoring five straight points to open the first period. Knox County rallied to lead 8-6 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers took control of the contest in the second period. Bryce Blomme scored seven points as the Tigers outscored the Eagles 15-5 to lead 21-13 at the intermission.
Matt Wickert put the game away in the third period. He poured in 10 of his team’s 12 points to extend the margin to 33-19.
The two teams opened up the offense in the fourth period, but it was too little, too late for Knox County despite some shaky free throw shooting by SCR-I. The Tigers made just four-of-12 from the charity stripe in the game’s final eight minutes.
Scotland County improved to 6-13 on the year and 2-3 in league play. Wickert led the Tigers with 16 points. Chris Humes had 12 points and Bryce Blomme finished with 10 points.
Cory Shultz led Knox County (8-12, 1-3) with 12 points.
