Scotland County Finishes in Second Place at Keokuk Golf Tournament
The annual Keokuk Invitational not only allows local golfers a chance to compete against some of southern Iowa’s finest, it does so in a rather unique format.
The Scotland County squad didn’t let either fact bother it as the Tigers brought home a second place finish from the April 2nd event.
The Tourney featured squads from West Liberty, Ft. Madison, Cardinal Stritch and Keokuk as well as SCR-I and Schuyler County.
Each team’s #1 player played head-to-head against the best player from the other teams. Each team’s #2 player did the same. The #3 and #4 players teamed up to play best-ball while the #5 and #6 players competed in a scramble.
Keokuk’s Cole Peevler set a blistering pace for the top players. He carded a one-under-par 71 to win individual medalist honors. Matt Stock of Schuyler County and Nate Ludwig of Cardinal Stritch finished as runner-ups with rounds of 85. Matt Wickert shot a 97 for SCR-I.
Marcus Shalley won the head-to-head match for the #2 players with a round of 87 that included a pair of birdies. James Vandenberg of Keokuk was runner up.
The Tigers took top honors in the best ball match-up as Kyle Lister and Joe Spurgeon combined to shoot a 81. Lister contributed a pair of birdies while Spurgeon had a string of pars to help the duo’s overall score.
Fort Madison won the scramble event with a score of 66. The team of Logan Trueblood and Travis Trueblood carded an 81 for the Tigers.
Keokuk won the overall tournament with a combined score of 328. SCR-I was second with a combined total of 346. Cardinal Stritch finished third (354), followed by West Liberty (356), Schuyler County (358) and Ft. Madison (372).
