Kenneth Burton Kelso, 82, of Lancaster, MO, passed away at his rural Lancaster home December 28, 2004.
He was born May 20, 1922, a son of Raymond Elmer and Edith (Burton) Kelso, in rural Downing, MO.
He was married to Mary Marie Partin on February 25, 1949, at the Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster, MO and to this union seven children were born.
Surviving are his children, Sheila Martin and husband, Fred of Downing, MO, Sina Kelso of Memphis, MO, John Kelso and wife, Cindy of Lancaster, MO, Terry Kelso and wife, Marlena of Downing, MO, Rick Kelso and wife, Debbie of Downing, MO, Randy Kelso of Lancaster, MO, and Kevin Kelso of Kirksville, MO; 16 grandchildren, Kim Martin, Laurie Nolan, Deana Martin, Sarah Martin, Jared Martin, Phillip Martin, Shaun Kelso, Jonah Kelso, Jeremy Bourgeois, Joshua Bourgeois, Jennifer Kelso, Elizabeth Edwards, Derrick Kelso, Scott Thrasher, Deric Thrasher, and DeAnn Thrasher; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Martin, Erika Bourgeois, Aidan Bourgeois and Nathan Thrasher; three sisters, Faye Jackson of Downing, MO, Kathleen Kelso of Downing, MO, and Velma Humphries of Houston, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mary Marie on April 24, 1998; an infant brother, Russel; two sisters, Ona Lee Aeschliman and Eva York; and one grandson-in-law, Bobby Nolan.
Mr. and Mrs. Kelso lived their entire married life in the Lancaster and Downing, MO area, where they farmed.
Services were held on December 31, 2004, at the Norman Funeral Home in Downing, MO with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Lancaster United Methodist Church officiating. Music was provided by organist, Betty Anderson and soloist, Schelle Cooley. Pallbearers were Scott Thrasher, Joshua Bourgeois, Jonah Kelso, Jeremy Bourgeois, Shaun Kelso and Deric Thrasher. Honorary pallbearers were Vaughn Ayer, Wayne King, Joe Farley, Tim Farley, Gail Farley and Jim Farley. Memorials have been established for the Hospice of Northeast Missouri and Wyatt Guest House, Ellis-Fischel, Columbia, MO. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery with military rites conducted by the VFW Post #4958 of Memphis, MO.
