Local Girls Hurt In Crash in Memphis
Two Scotland County girls were injured in a two-vehicle accident just inside the north city limits of Memphis at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2nd.
According to the Memphis Police Department, Jessica Humes, 17, of Gorin was southbound on Highway 15 in a 1996 Pontiac when she slowed to make a left hand turn onto Route AA. As the vehicle was yielding to oncoming traffic, the vehicle was struck in the rear by another southbound vehicle. Roger Speer, 50, of Luray attempted to avoid the car but was unable to stop his 1999 Dodge pickup, which was hauling a livestock trailer. The truck and trailer slid sideways and impacted the rear of the Humes car.
Jessica Humes, and a passenger in her car, Sara Melton, 18, of Memphis, both sustained moderate injuries and were taken by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Memorial Hospital. Speer was uninjured.
The Memphis PD was assisted at the scene by Scotland County Sheriff’s Department and the ambulance service.
The Humes vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed by Dynamite’s Wrecker Service.
