Firemen Put Out Pair Of Grassfires
The warmest day of 2005 thus far generated plenty of heat for the Scotland County Fire Department, which responded to pair of grassfires Monday, March 28 as warm temperatures had landowners in “Spring Cleanup” mode.
The volunteer force was dispatched to Countryside Flowers at 10:59 a.m. to douse a grassfire behind the shop. Nine firemen responded to the call, taking five fire trucks. The blaze was quickly brought under control.
The firemen were dispatched to the Joe McVeigh residence west of Memphis on Lake Show-Me Road at approximately 4:00 p.m. A trash fire caught an adjoining CRP field on fire and burned less than 10 acres before the fire department was able to extinguish the fire. The volunteers were on the scene for approximately 45 minutes.
