LaPlata Spoils Golf Season Opener By Just Two Strokes
A strong showing by the home team’s #5 player helped LaPlata spoil the season opener for the Scotland County golf team in a triangular event held at LaPlata. The Bulldog’s Cory Smith shot a 44 to tie for top honors and help LaPlata edge SCR-I by a final score of 185-183. Schuyler County was third with a score of 194.
Blacksmith tied with teammate Brady Crawford as well as SCR-I’s Corvin Drummond for individual medalist honors.
The Tigers rounded out the team score with Marcus Shalley, Logan Trueblood and Zach McBee each shooting 47s. Kyle Lister finished with a 50.
The Tigers junior varsity finished the day with a round of 206 led by Nick Oldham’s 46. Matt Wickert shot a 50 followed by Michael Moore with a 54, Jessie Mattingly with a 56 and Andy Cowell with a 57. The team edged Schuyler County’s jayvee, which shot a 221.
