SCR-I Board Beginning To Fill Teaching Positions For 2004-05 School Year
While the April 6th election signified a changing of the guard for some local school boards, the Scotland County R-I Board of Education remained unchanged.
The Board held a re-organizational meeting April 13th. Incumbents David Kirkpatrick and Doug Shalley had no opposition in the election and thus by law there was no election required. Both men earned new terms that will continue their service through March 2007.
With no new members, the board decided to maintain its existing officer structure. Ellen Aylward will continue to serve as board president. George Koontz fills the vice president position with Gary Miller handling the secretary position and David Kirkpatrick serving as treasurer.
The board took advantage of the special meeting to take care of some regular business. In executive session the board received staff evaluations and finalized employment decisions for the 2004-05 school year.
While it is not necessary to vote on continuing the contract of tenured staff, Superintendent LeRoy Huff pointed out that the board wished to express its support and appreciation for all of the tenured teachers. The board did so with a 7-0 vote of confidence for the work they do on behalf of the SCR-I students.
The tenured teachers at SCR-I are Dave Boden, Brent Bondurant, Bob Brown, Terri Bulen, Susan Burns, Debbi Caldwell, Jeannie Childress, Marc Colvin, Teresa Cotton, William Cottrell, Kathy Cowell, Ken Cross, Andrea Dabney, Chris Dunham, Terri Emel, Lori Fulk, Marsha Goucher, Jo Beth Harvey, Gary Hunziker, Sheri Kapfer, Linda Marlowe, Rhonda McBee, Carol McCabe, Shari Moore, Jim Morgan, Sarah Myers, Marla O’Donnell, Tom O’Donnell, Sue Payne, Sharon Triplett, Julie Wickert and Randi York.
Four members of the certified staff were eligible to receive tenured status this year and all four were approved by a 7-0 vote. The newly tenured teachers are Marie Alexander, Jason Jones, Meera Shinn and Denice Blaine.
The board voted 7-0 to offer employment to the following non-tenured staff: Kathleen Bialota, Ryan Brown, Lisa Denney, Mike Hyde, Katie Lewis-Lehr, Leslie Lough, Nathan Pippert, Kelli Swearingen, Dawn Triplett, Angie Wentworth and Brook Wineinger.
Melissa Miller and Andrea Brassfield were offered employment by a 6-0 vote. Gary Miller and Scott Brassfield were absent when the votes for their spouses were considered.
The board then voted 7-0 to offer continued employment to Elementary School Principal Rob Moore. Board member Doug Shalley excused himself during the considerations for the high school principal. The board voted 6-0 to offer continued employment to Principal Dave Shalley.
The board continued the employment theme by authorizing the hiring of a number of new teachers. The board voted to employ Suzanne Reay as a high school science teacher to replace Roxanne Hoover. High school English contracts were offered to Jennifer Morgan and Brad Cerbin, who will be replacing Sara Smith and Stephanie Fowler.
Sixth-grade-teacher Sarah Myers was offered the position of Reading Coach pending the completion of the DESE grant that would fund the special project through the Reading First Grant the elementary school recently received.
